Comments about this photo
The photo was taken sometime between the last week of September and December 1926.
In this year, the eldest son o
f George and Ethel Hook was paralysed as result of a shooting accident and died in 1927. His younger brother, Harold was a champion athlete. and broke the State Schools record for long jump for boys ages less than 14 years with a jump fo 17 feet 2 inches ( 5.638 meters)
.
Were the boys in the front row "playing athletics' just before the photo was taken? Is that why they are not wearing shoes?
It was a winning year for the school also as recorded in the newspaper

The children are proudly holding the winning sports shield in this photo.

CLYDE.
At the recent State school examinations the head teacher of the Clyde North school secured  100 percent of passes for the merit and qualifying  certificates

The annual sports' competitions among the State School for the district shield were held on the Cranbourne recreation ground, the shield being won by the Clyde North school teams. The points scored were:-Clyde North, 77; Clyde, 43; Cranbourne Z, team, 29; Cranbourne A team, 27; Lyndhurst, 4. The shield was presented to the winners by Councillor D. McCulloch (president of the Cranbourne Shire).

The Argus Fri 24 September 1926

Clyde North School No 118 surrendered the Shield to Clyde for the next year (1927) but won the basket ball competition for 1927

Do former students recognise the names of the two Cranbourne teams? Pink and Purple colours?
In 1926 Clyde 3664 came in second. Was there rivalry between these two schools? The township school won the sports a few years later, in 1930, under the leadership of Mr Myring.
