It seems that in this photo the children were facing west looking towards Fisheries Road.

CRANBOURNE. At the associated Sports of the State schools of
the metropolitan area William Bailey of the Clyde State school, won the high jump. Betty  Savage and Eddie Evans, of the Cranbourne   State School, came third in the footrace for girls and boys respectively aged under 13 year
